Assistant Surgeon John McCurdy

John McCurdy enlisted as an Assistant Surgeon in the 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on July 2, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was promoted to the rank of Surgeon on October 26, 1862 and was transferred to the 11th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on November 10, 1862. He was transferred as an Assistant Surgeon the U.S. Medical Volunteers on January 8, 1864, and resigned his commission February 10, 1865.

Major James P. McIlrath

James P. McIlrath enlisted as a 28 year old Captain of Company A, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 1, 1861, mustering into service June 27, 1861. He was promoted to Major to date October 15, 1862, and mustered out July 15, 1864.

Roster - Company C, 23rd OVI

Sergeant Isaac M.C. Lowe

Isaac M.C. Lowe enlisted as a 21 year old Private in Company C, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on July 16, 1861, mustering into service the same day. Promoted to Corporal July 17, 1862 and to Sergeant April 8, 1863, he was reduced to the ranks on July 20, 1863 and mustered out July 15, 1864 at Columbus, Ohio.

Sergeant Robert F. Wert

Robert F. Wert enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company C, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on May 20, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was promoted to Sergeant early in his service but was reduced to the ranks. He was promoted to Corporal September 15, 1862 and then to Sergeant July 26, 1863. He was mustered out June 30, 1864.

Corporal William Noblitt

William Noblitt enlisted as a 24 year old Corporal in Company C, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on January 22, 1862, mustering into service the same day. Wounded and captured July 24, 1864 in action at Winchester, Virginia, he died of his wounds while a prisoner of war September 1, 1864 at Mount Jackson, Virginia.

Roster - Company G, 23rd OVI

Sergeant Joseph Augustus Brown, Company G

Joseph A. Brown was born July 16, 1844 in Ashland Co., Ohio and enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company G, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 7, 1861, mustering into service the same day. Wounded in action September 17, 1862 at the Battle of Antietam, he was detailed as a scout on April 14, 1864. Promoted to Corporal November 16, 1864 and to Sergeant March 9, 1865, he was reduced to private on April 13, 1865 and was mustered out July 26, 1865 at Cumberland, Maryland. After the war, he moved to Kansas and died January 1, 1916 in Paola.

Private Henry C. Cremer

Henry C. Cremer enlisted as an 18 year old Private in Company H, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on May 30, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was captured May 9, 1864 in the battle of Cloyd's Mountain, Virginia, but his record thereafter is unclear.

Captain Abraham A. Hunter, Companies K and D

Abraham A. Hunter enlisted as a 32 year old First Lieutenant in Company K, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 1, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was promoted to Captain of Company D to date February 11, 1862 and was killed in action May 9, 1864 at the Battle of Cloyd's Mountain.

Captain Dewitt Clinton Howard, Company K (also 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry)

Dewitt Clinton Howard enlisted as a 24 year old Captain of Company K, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 1, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He resigned his commission February 11, 1862.
He later enlisted as Major of the 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 12, 1862, receiving his commission September 18, 1862. He was discharged February 15, 1865.

Captain Archie C. Fisk

Archie C. Fisk was born in New York and enlisted as a 23 year old Second Lieutenant in Company K, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 11, 1861, mustering into service the same day. Promoted to First Lieutenant of Company E to date October 15, 1862, he was transferred back to Company K to date April 9, 1863. He was promoted to Captain and transferred to the Adjutant General Dept. on June 23, 1863, serving in the western theater, and mustering out July 20, 1865.

Corporal Degrass S. Chapman

Degrass S. Chapman enlisted as a Private in Company K, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 30, 1861, mustering into service the same day. Promoted to Corporal May 1, 1862, he was wounded in action September 17, 1862 at the Battle of Antietam and died of his wounds September 21, 1862.

Corporal John C. Worcester

John C. Worcester enlisted as a Private in Company K, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 11, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He was promoted to Corporal to date January 1, 1863. He was transferred to Company G on September 30, 1864 but his further record is unclear.

Private John M. Bonsor

John M. Bonsor enlisted as a 22 year old Private in Company K, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on June 11, 1861, mustering into service the same day. He drowned in the Ohio River on December 15, 1863 near Gallipolis, Ohio.
