Farmers and Citizens' Banking Company (Milan, Ohio) - MS 5

Agency History | Scope and Content | Inventory

Agency History

On August 11, 1910, the Board of Directors of the Farmers and Citizens' Banking Company, of Huron County in Milan, Ohio, met to begin the operations of the newly established bank. The Farmers and Citizens' Banking Company is assumed to have been incorporated under the laws of the state in approximately 1910 and continued its operations until approximately 1940 and 1941 when it joined with the Erie County Bank of Vermilion, Ohio.

Scope and Content

Contained within the remaining records of the bank are an account of the transactions of the Board of Directors; for the minutes cover a time period from 1910-1940 and much of the early correspondence concerns the actions of the Board. Bank correspondence begins in 1910 and continues until 1950, however, it is complete for the years 1911-1917 and 1930-1940. Stock certificates are complete from 1910-1940.

Records documenting the sale of stock, loans, FHA transactions, commercial ventures, sale of bonds, and deposits are incomplete, vague, and would be of little significance to the history of the bank.
