Introduction | Agency History | Order of Microfilming

 Introduction

The records of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1915 - 2001, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in October 2001, with the cooperation of Father Robert Kill of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, marriages*, and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.)

This register and this collection was prepared by Jennifer Golis in November 2001.

*There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection.

 Agency History

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church began as a Station of Antwerp in 1890. In 1895, the care of the Station was transferred to Holgate. In 1903, it was transferred to Miller City. In 1906, the parish built its church. With the building of the church the status of the parish was changed from a Station to a Mission. In 1915, the parish received their first resident pastor, Father Joseph Hensbach.

During the 1930's and 1940's, growth of church membership was slow. Since that time though, the population of the parish has grown steadily. In 1952, the church was remodeled.

In 1976, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church became a sister parish of St. Joseph, North Creek and St. Barbara, Cloverdale.
