Introduction | Agency History | Order of Microfilming

 Introduction

The records of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 1884 - 2002, were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in June 2002, with the cooperation of Reverend Albert B. Ceranowski of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.

The collection consists of baptisms*, first communions, confirmations, marriages* and interments. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) Some text is in Latin.

This register and this collection was prepared by Rachel Diegel in June 2002.

*There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection.

 Agency History

The parish of St. Ignatius Catholic Church began as a Mission of Toussaint in 1883. This parish was originally known as Big Ditch, then Momineetown. It became known as Oregon in 1957. The parish built their first church in 1883. In 1891, the pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Toledo took over the care of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. The parish received their first resident pastor, Father James Rouchy in 1892.

Beginning in 1916, the parish built new church and school buildings. A fire destroyed this combination of church and school in 1926. The new combination church and school building was completed in 1927. The school was closed in 1939 due to the inability of the parish to finance the continuation of the school.
