Program Admission Requirements
The AYA France/ Burkina Faso programs are open to both BGSU students and those from other colleges and universities. The latter must satisfy regular university requirements for guest students, a process which requires the completion of an additional application form. We require a minimum GPA of 2.5, and we prefer (but do not require) that students complete 4 years of high school French or 4 semesters of college-level French prior to departure. (However, students with no previous background in French may begin their language study in Tours and complete in one semester the 4-course language requirement of the College of Arts and Sciences at BGSU.) We will also take the student essay and the recommending professor’s input into consideration when making admission decisions.
Who may apply?
The undergraduate program is open to language majors and minors, as well as to students in other disciplines. In addition to French language courses, we offer a variety of courses in the humanities (art history, contemporary culture, literature) and social sciences (civilization, history, media/cinema) to students in all fields who wish to broaden and enrich their educational experience. In recent years, the program has included students with such majors as art, biology, broadcasting, pre-medicine, chemistry, computer art, English, history, journalism, international business, international relations, political science, public relations, sociology and Spanish.
What are the application deadlines?
Students applying for the Summer or Fall sessions abroad must submit their applications by March 15th of each year. Those applying for the Spring semester abroad must submit their applications by October 15th of each year.

Insurance and Medical Facilities
The University requires that every student be insured through a trip-accident-sickness policy and a trip-personal effects policy, if such coverage is not included in another policy. Since there is no medical fee, no medical service will be provided by the program. All students must assume complete responsibility for providing themselves with adequate insurance protection. Proof of health insurance is required by the French government for issuance of the necessary visa, and proof of a current ISIC card is required for program participation.
Participants are asked to use French exclusively throughout the program.
All students are expected to abide by regulations governing the program.
