Adding/Removing User Access to Your Department's File Share

 
 

How to Request Access to Your Department's File Share
To connect users to your Department's file share, please have your department contact person send the following information to the Technology Support Center (TSC) using the following email address: tsc@bgsu.edu

  • Full Name and BGSU username of users to be added.
  • If the user is Faculty/Staff or Student.
  • What folders these users get access to.
  • What type of access the user should get(ex. read/write)
  • If they are using a Macintosh or Windows XP computer.
  • If the user should have the My Documents backup procedure enabled.

Note : If you need assistance in determining the name of your department contact person, please call the TSC at 419-372-0999 for assistance.

So, for example, an email would look like the following:

Please add the following users to the {Department Name} Department File Share:

John Smith (jsmith) Faculty/Staff - read/write access to the public folder. Windows Computer
John Doe (jdoe) Student - read/write access to the office folder and the public folder. Macintosh Computer
Jane Doe (jadoe) Faculty/Staff - read/write access to the office folder only. Macintosh Computer
Jake Doe (jakdoe) Faculty/Staff – read/write access to the public folder. Windows Computer. Enable My Documents Backup.

How to Remove Access to Your Department's File Share
To remove users from to your Department's file share, please have your department contact person send the following information to the Technology Support Center (TSC) using the following email address: tsc@bgsu.edu

  1. Full Name and BGSU username of users whose access needs to be changed or removed.
  2. If the user is Faculty/Staff or Student.
  3. A description of the access change required.
  4. If the user should have the My Documents backup procedure disabled.

This is a sample of a remove request:

Please remove the following users from the {Department Name} Department File Share:

Jeff Doe (jfdoe) Student - please remove all access to share and delete the jfdoe My Documents backup.

It is imperative that all requests to add or remove access to a department file share are sent to the tsc@bgsu.edu email address in order to complete the requests in a timely manner.
