Scanning & Organization of Drawings
Scanned drawings can be pulled up on a computer in a matter of seconds, making it easier to provide information to other departments on campus, or to outside architecture and engineering firms doing design work for the university. The drawings required can be sent via e-mail, uploaded to a web site, or copied to a CD or DVD. This keeps the fragile original drawings here on campus and minimizes their deterioration due to handling.
To request drawings, submit the Information Request Form.
Before the current system was in place, it took approximately four hours to locate a set of drawings. In the summer of 2005, a project was implemented with the help of student interns to organize and scan the drawings. The drawings sets were sorted, examined, and transported to be scanned. The paper drawings sets were bound, labeled and alphabetically placed in drawers. A spreadsheet was created to log information on the drawings for future reference. The time to locate a set of paper drawings was reduced to 10 minutes.
