Help provide safe, bright lights for South Africa
Graduate students in political science and school psychology at BGSU are working with the provincial government in South Africa and Project Learning Around the World (http://www.platw.org) to raise funds for fire-safe candle devices for residents of Cape Town. Candle fires are frequent in the shantytowns and often lead to deaths, burns, and destruction of homes. The project’s goal is to provide people with safe candle devices in order to prevent these devastating fires.
Two fundraising opportunities are coming up near campus. On Friday and Saturday (April 9 and 10), SBX Bookstore (530 E. Wooster St.) will be donating 20 percent of all merchandise sales (excluding book sales) to Project Bright Light. And from 5-9 p.m. April 18, El Zarape Restaurant (1616 E. Wooster St.) will be donating 15 percent of its sales to the project.
To make a donation to Project Bright Light, go to http://www.platw.org/ohio.html#BrightLights. All proceeds go to provide candle-safe devices for the shantytowns in Cape Town.
Graduate students in Dr. Shannon Orr’s Environmental Management political science course are participating as part of a class project. Project Learning Around the World is organized in part by Dr. Audrey Ellenwood, school psychology. To learn more, visit
