Social psychologist and author discusses gay marriage

David Myers, social psychologist and author, will present “Bridging the Divide: Strengthening Marriage, Welcoming Gays” as the next speaker in the College of Arts and Sciences Forum series.

His free talk will begin at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 29 in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater. A dessert reception will follow the discussion.

Myers will provide a scientific and religious view of gay marriage, which is the topic of his recent book, What God Has Joined Together: The Christian Case for Gay Marriage. The book attempts to bridge the divide between marriage-supporting and gay-supporting people of faith, demonstrating how both sides make significant contributions to the issue.

The author of more than 15 books, including textbooks and books for the general public, Myers’ work has been supported by National Science Foundation grants and fellowships and recognized by the Gordon Allport Prize. His writing has appeared in 24 academic periodicals, including Science, the American Psychologist and Psychological Science, as well as three dozen magazines, including Scientific American and Christian Century.
