The winner of this year’s Michael R. Ferrari Award, the top honor for administrative staff, will receive the award from Dr. “Mick” Ferrari himself.

Ferrari will be the special guest at the annual Administrative Staff Council Fall Reception and awards ceremony, to be held from 2-4 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. In addition to presenting his namesake award, Ferrari will address the gathering.

Also on the program will be the presentation of ASC student scholarships.

“We are happy and honored to welcome Dr. Ferrari back to campus,” said ASC Chair Lona Leck, Ice Arena. “We encourage everyone to come and hear what is sure to be an inspiring message.”

The BGSU Board of Trustees established the Ferrari Award in his honor in 1982 to recognize his exemplary administrative accomplishments and service. It is given annually to an employee who demonstrates commitment to BGSU and service exceeding the requirements of the job.

Ferrari, who was interim president of BGSU in 1981-82, is chancellor emeritus of Texas Christian University, from which he retired two years ago.

Now a resident of Lake Forest, Ill., Ferrari is senior vice president and managing director of EFL Associates Executive Search in Chicago, and president of Ferrari and Associates, a higher education consulting firm.

Joining the BGSU administration in 1971 as coordinator of planning, budget and institutional studies, Ferrari was named acting provost of the University in 1972 and vice president for resource planning in 1973. He was appointed provost and executive vice president in 1978 before becoming interim president following the death of President Hollis Moore.

After leaving BGSU in 1983, Ferrari served as provost at Wright State University in Dayton and, from 1985-98, as president of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

In 1991, he received an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from BGSU.
