Marketing & Communications wins 10 awards
BOWLING GREEN, O.—The Bowling Green State University Office of Marketing & Communications has won 10 awards in the 2006 Crystal Awards Competition sponsored by the Toledo Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications.
Fifty-one of this year's 225 entries received awards in the competition that recognizes the region's best work in the fields of print and broadcast journalism, marketing, public relations, design and electronic media. The honors were announced Nov. 15 during ceremonies at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library in downtown Toledo.
BGSU Marketing & Communications won five Crystal Awards, including an award for the University's Web site, www.bgsu.edu.
Crystal Awards also were given to Marketing & Communications for “Uncharted Waters,” a BGSU Magazine cover photograph by Craig Bell; the Freshman Viewbook, Changing the World by Degrees; BG and YOU television spots, and the 2006-07 College of Musical Arts Festival Series program.
Awards of Merit went to Monitor Monthly, the faculty-staff newsletter; Dimensions, a College of Arts and Sciences special-purpose publication; the 2004-05 BGSU Foundation Annual Report, and the 2006 Presidents' Day program, all produced by Marketing & Communications.
“I am proud that the creative work of our staff has been judged to be among the best produced in this region,” said Kim McBroom, BGSU associate vice president for marketing and communications. “When you combine the awards won by our office with the awards won by students and others here at the University, BGSU made a very strong showing in this year's competition.”
Other BGSU Crystal Award winners included “Playing from the Heart,” a documentary produced by Tony Howard at WBGU-TV, and an Art in TARTA vehicle graphic design created by May 2006 BGSU graduate Matt Finkhousen, among others, and entered by Dawson Design.
The cover of a DVD titled “Faces and Voices of Student Success,” designed by BGSU sophomore design studies major Josh Lightle of Swanton and John Kaplan, a post-production specialist in the College of Arts and Sciences, won a Crystal Award for design. The DVD, which was produced by Matt Fredericks, an audio-visual specialist in the College of Arts and Sciences, also received a Crystal Award in the informational video/CD category.
Other Awards of Merit went to the DVD “Your New Community,” produced by Fredericks, designed by Lightle and Kaplan, and written by Fredericks and Peter Kuebeck, a part-time communications specialist in the College of Arts and Sciences; and Art in TARTA vehicle graphics created by Ben Morales, a senior design studies major from Lima, among others, and entered by Dawson Design.
BGSU swept the prizes in the student division. Senior Aaron Stevenson of Maumee, a co-op student in Marketing & Communications, won an Award of Merit for photography, and 3D posters produced by May 2006 School of Art graduates Brenda Bergman of St. Henry, Megan Carrel of Fostoria, Rachel Frye of Greenville and Andrea Jacoboski of Atlanta, Ga., directed by art instructor Amy Fidler, received an Award of Merit.
The Crystal Award in the student media division went to Laren Weber, a senior journalism major from Defiance, for an article she wrote as an intern for The Blade in Toledo last summer.
