Professor named editor of international journal

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Dr. Michael Carroll, director of the Center for Regional Development at Bowling Green State University, will edit a new journal of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI).

The RSAI, based in the United Kingdom, will launch Regional Science Policy and Practice in 2009. The international publication will focus on the application of regional science approaches to public policy, regional development, planning and related fields. The new journal will contain papers and case studies demonstrating best practices, along with case studies and evaluations of significant regional policy and programs.

Carroll has served as associate editor of Economic Development Quarterly since 2006 as well as been on the editorial boards of Industrial Geographer and the Journal of Economic Issues.

An associate professor of economics in Bowling Green's College of Business Administration, he became director of the University's Center for Regional Development in 2005.

His research interests are in the areas of urban and regional economics, the history of economic thought, political economy and macroeconomic theory.

He is the author of the 1998 book “A Future of Capitalism: The Economic Vision of Robert Heilbroner,” published by Macmillan Press in London and St. Martin's in New York. His latest book, “Local Economic Development: Analysis, Practices, and Globalization,” is scheduled for release this summer and is coauthored by John P. Blair, a visiting scholar at the BGSU Center for Regional Development.

Among his recent projects was a study of the economic impact of the arts in northwest Ohio.
