BOWLING GREEN, O.—Appropriately for this time of year, Bowling Green State University’s Newcomers Showcase presents “Almost, Maine,” a tale of an enchanted midwinter night’s dream.
Performances will be given Feb. 25-28 in the Joe E. Brown Theatre, located in University Hall on the BGSU campus. Evening performances Thursday through Saturday will begin at 8 p.m.; weekend matinees will begin at 2 p.m.
In this comedy by John Cariani, all is not exactly as it seems when the residents of the remote, mythical town of Almost, Me., find themselves falling in and out of love in ways both unexpected and hilarious. The annual Newcomers production features a cast of exclusively first-year and transfer students from across campus.
A production of the Department of Theatre and Film, “Almost, Maine” is directed by theatre Ph.D. candidate Tim Schaffer of St. Louis, Mo., and co-directed by theatre Ph.D. student Lance Mekeel of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and theatre master’s student John O’Connor of New Hampton, N.Y. The cast includes musical theatre majors Rachel Beck of Brighton, Mich., Kara Bergman of Englewood, Amanda Detar of Irwin, Pa., and Kellie Jean Snyder of Troy, Mich.; theatre majors JD Caudill of Powell, Russell Donnelly of Mount Vernon, Jeffrey Guion of Ashland, Kerbie Minor of Columbus; Shirley O’Nan of Findlay, Brigid Randolph of Toledo, and Zak Thompson of Washington Court House; integrated language arts major Kathryn Grilliot of Bowling Green; criminal justice major Anthony Nolfi of Ravenna; telecommunications major Aaron Newquist Weiss of Park Forest, Ill., and undeclared major Erin Williams of Perrysburg.
