BGSU celebrates 268th summer commencement

BOWLING GREEN, O.—On Saturday, Aug. 7, Bowling Green State University will honor its summer graduates with a commencement ceremony at 9 a.m. on the University Hall lawn. Over 1,200 diplomas will be awarded, including 641 degrees granted through the Graduate College.

The commencement speaker is 1974 graduate Cheryl Krueger. Krueger started Cheryl & Co. with one cookie store in Columbus, and built it into a $50 million corporation. In 2005 the cookie, gourmet dessert and gift basket retailer was sold to 1-800-Flowers with Krueger remaining CEO until her 2009 retirement. She recently founded KRUEGER + CO. Consulting, Inc., which helps companies develop creative marketing and sales strategies and improve financial performance.

Also at the ceremony, Mary Beckinsale, an internationally recognized art education and art historian, will receive an honorary degree. Beckinsale is president of Studio Art Centers International (SACI). SACI is the BGSU School of Art’s study abroad program in Florence, Italy, and one of the premier study abroad institutions in Italy and worldwide. Under her leadership, enrollment has grown to approximately 150-180 students each semester, with 80 percent of SACI’s students coming from American universities.
