Bowling Green State University
In October 2007, BGSU added another way of reaching students and staff in the event of an emergency. AlertBG messages are sent across a wide variety of platforms to warn of such situations as crimes in progress, building closures, severe weather and canceled classes.
The program, which adds another dimension to the campus’s overall crisis management plan, is only used in emergencies. AlertBG messages appear in the following locations:
Cell Phone Text Message
BGSU Home Page
Campus Digital Signage
On January 13, 2014, all cell phone numbers registered with the University will be automatically submitted to AlertBG to receive emergency text messages. The move is part of an effort to increase the number of faculty, staff and students who receive the texts. While AlertBG utilizes a variety of forms of communication, text messaging is often one of the most effective methods.
You can choose to not receive AlertBG text messages by visiting MyBGSU and selecting the AlertBG menu. The opt-out option will be available after January 1.
Students: To add your cell phone number to your BGSU contact information, or update your current number, go to MyBGSU and select "Students" from the top menu. Your contact information will be displayed and you may add or edit your information.
Faculty/Staff: To add your cell phone number to your BGSU contact information, or update your current number, go to MyBGSU and select "Faculty" or "Employees" from the top menu then select "Update Personal Information" from the list of links on the left. Choose the phone numbers tab and select "add a phone number."
