Calling all actors, singers for 'Aladdin,' 'Camp Rock'

Caryl Crane Youth Theatre (CCYT) is holding open auditions for its upcoming productions of Disney's "Camp Rock" and "Aladdin," from 10 a.m. to noon July 18 and 19 in the McBride Auditorium at BGSU Firelands. CCYT Artistic Director Brian Marshall will direct.

All ages and types are needed. Roles are available for actors, singers and dancers. No experience is necessary. For "Aladdin," you must be within the ages of 8-13 by the first rehearsal on Aug. 5 to participate. For "Camp Rock," you must be between the ages of 14-18 to participate. Rehearsals will be weekday mornings prior to the school year beginning and switch to afternoon/evenings once fall semester begins.

For the audition: Prepare one short contemporary musical theater selection that shows off your voice. You may be asked to dance, so should bring appropriate clothes. You may be asked to read from the scripts. Sides will be available at check-in.

Several roles are available in both productions for non-singers. Callbacks, if needed, will take place at 10 a.m. July 20. You will be notified at your audition if you are needed for callbacks.

As with all CCYT productions, there is no participation fee. A suggested donation of $10 is used to cover the cost of purchasing individual scripts/scores/CDs for each cast member.

McBride Auditorium is at One University Drive, Huron.

More information is available by calling 372-0732 or emailing mbrian@bgsu.edu.

Open auditions announced for University Choral Society

The College of Musical Arts invites community members to audition for the University Choral Society's 2013-14 season.

Open auditions are being scheduled. Membership includes the opportunity to perform in performances of Handel's "Messiah" and Verdi's "Requiem" with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, highlights of this year's season.

The ensemble will perform "Messiah" with soloists and the symphony on Dec. 8 as part of the symphony's regular season at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. On March 21 and 22, the choral society, along with other BGSU choruses and soloists, will return to Toledo to perform Verdi's choral-orchestral masterpiece with the Toledo Symphony.

"It has been a number of years since the Verdi 'Requiem' has been performed in the area and it is a huge undertaking," said Mark Munson, director of choral activities at BGSU and of the chorus.

Toledo Symphony Orchestra conductor Stefan Sanderling has asked for 200 singers to perform the work, and so the five major choruses at BGSU - the University Choral Society, Collegiate Chorale, A Cappella Choir, Women's Chorus, and Men's Chorus - will join forces with the TSO for what is sure to be a cultural highlight of the year for the region, Munson said.

The chorus rehearses from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Moore Musical Musical Arts Center, with the first rehearsal scheduled for Sept. 3.

For more information, and to schedule an audition, call the College of Musical Arts at 419-372-2186.
