Edmund Danziger honored by history society
Four of Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus of history Edmund J. Danziger’s former students will present a session in his honor today (Sept. 12) at the annual meeting of the American Society for Ethnohistory in New Orleans.
James Buss of Salisbury University, Brittany Fremion of Central Michigan University, Joseph Genetin-Pilawa of Illinois College, and Kristalyn Shefveland of the University of Southern Indiana will explain how Danziger influenced their growth as scholars and demonstrate the various ways in which he has inspired a new generation of historians.
Dean Jacobs, former chief of Canada’s Bkejwanong First Nation and current director at Walpole Island Heritage Centre, will chair the panel. For nearly 30 years he hosted Danziger’s Indian history field trips to Bkejwanong (Walpole Island) Reserve in southwest Ontario. Jacobs also visited the campus several times, and BGSU awarded him an honorary Doctor of Public Service in 1998 for his work with its students and his international support of aboriginal rights.
