Volunteers, projects needed for day of service
When Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was declared a national holiday, Congress called it a “day on, not a day off.” In this spirit, BGSU is hoping to engage more than 500 students, faculty and staff in community service to honor King.
The 2012 MLK Jr. Day of Service Challenge will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 16. Teams of students, faculty and staff will complete a challenge project at the site of a community partner in the Bowling Green area. Volunteer groups will receive a small amount of money to aid in accomplishing their challenge and will have to use their creativity and collective talent to produce a solution.
To register, visit http://bit.ly/u3asS3. You may volunteer as an individual and be assigned to a team, or your organization may sign up as a team and complete a challenge. Each member of a team must register, up to 15 people.
Last year’s projects included building outdoor cat shelters for Humane Ohio, fixing bikes for All About the Kids and taking down the holiday decorations in downtown Bowling Green. Businesses or charities interested in hosting a community project can contact the Office of Service-Learning at 2-9865 or email@example.com.
