BGSU conference offers insight into 'State of the Region'

Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut will be among the speakers at the annual State of the Region Conference Friday (Feb. 12), hosted by BGSU's Center for Regional Development (CRD). The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn at Levis Commons in Perrysburg. The chancellor will address how higher education is driving economic change.

In his State of the Region Address, CRD director Dr. Michael Carroll, economics, will review economic highlights of the past year and discuss what the region may look forward to this year.

The program will also feature a panel of regional business leaders including Charles Stocking, president of Principle Business Enterprises; Debbie Sauder David, executive director of Sauder Village; Dave Von Deylen, president of Alex Products, and Donald Mennel of Mennel Milling Co. Moderating the panel will be Dr. Rodney Rogers, dean of the College of Business Administration.

In addition, John Magill, chief strategic officer for policy research and strategic planning at the Ohio Department of Development, will speak on why innovation is the key to Ohio's recovery.

About 280 civic and business leaders from the 27-county northwest sector of Ohio are registered to attend.

Student, alumni job seekers get boost at Spring EXPO

The Spring EXPO Job and Internship Fair for BGSU students and alumni is going on today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Perry Field House. There are 93 organizations and 216 recruiters registered to attend today, plus 41 employers scheduled to participate in tomorrow's Spring Expo Interview Day.

Career categories represented at EXPO include: accounting, auditing and tax ; advertising and art design; entertainment, sports and media; communication; community and social services; computers and mathematics; event planning and fundraising; human resource development and management; business management; military; sales, retailing and hospitality management, and supply chain.
