Dr. Neal Jesse has been appointed interim director of the BG Experience Program effective July 1, the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost has announced.

Jesse has been chair of the political science department since 2007. His participation in developing critical thinking about values predates the formation of the BG Experience (BGeX) program. In the summer of 2001, he worked with then-Vice Provost Mark Gromko and Ohio Eminent Scholar Milt Hakel to develop academic themes for that fall's BiG Welcome.

In 2003, Jesse taught a "V" section of International Studies 200 for the first time, and later also taught Introduction to Critical Thinking. In 2005 and 2006 he was a faculty facilitator in new-faculty and continuing-faculty workshops for BGeX. Since 2007 he has served on the BGeX Advisory Committee.

Jesse's commitment to students at BGSU also earned him recognition in 2001 from the Office of Campus Development "for consistently offering significant and meaningful contributions to New Student Orientation programs."

Jesse joined the BGSU political science faculty in 1999. In 2005, he was tenured and promoted to associate professor. He received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1996 and taught at UCLA, Claremont McKenna College and Scripps College.

Dr. Jeffrey Peake will be interim chair of political science for 2010-11. Current BG Experience Director Dr. George Agich will return to the philosophy department.
