BGSU hosts OSCHE 20th anniversary summer conference

BGSU and its Classified Staff Council will host the Ohio Staff Council of Higher Education's (OSCHE) 20th Anniversary Summer Conference tomorrow (June 17) and Friday (June 18).

OSCHE is a group of two- and four-year colleges and universities across the state whose classified staff governs itself. Along with BGSU, it is made up of Belmont Technical College, Columbus State Community College, Lorain County Community College, Miami University, Ohio State University, Ohio University, Owens Community College, Sinclair Community College, University of Akron, University of Toledo and Wright State University.

OSCHE got its start at BGSU in 1990 during a regular meeting of the Classified Staff Council. Its mission is to share any information that would benefit all classified staff members, both personally and in helping them better meet the needs of the University and its students. CSC Chair Lorrie Sawaie has been a member and officer of OSCHE for several years and has helped organize this year's conference.

The theme of this year's conference is Growth of Active Leadership, or GOALS. Speakers include Larry Weiss, co-chair of the Centennial Anniversary Commission; Bob Kreienkamp, founder of OSCHE, and Rodger Campbell, a motivational speaker. The conference will also address such topics as Ohio's retirement plan for public employees and health-care changes.

Emch named financial aid director

Laura Emch

Laura Emch has been named the permanent director of the Office of Student Financial Aid, Albert Colom, vice president for enrollment management, announced today.

Emch had served as interim director since last April, and before that as senior associate director, since November 2009, and associate director, since 1982. She has stepped into the interim and acting director roles on several occasions.

Colom said her appointment will help ensure a seamless transition and continuous support in a vital area.
