Smoke-Free Policy

In 2012, the Ohio Board of Regents, with the support of then-Chancellor Jim Petro, advocated for the establishment of tobacco-free college and university campuses throughout Ohio. Last fall, I appointed a committee chaired by Senior Associate Vice President and Dean of Students Jill Carr to explore options for BGSU. The committee, comprised of faculty, staff and students, conducted research and surveys and engaged constituent representatives in discussions.

The committee submitted the recommendation to move toward a smoke-free campus with smoking areas in designated parking lots throughout campus. The Board of Trustees approved this policy, and effective Jan. 1, 2014, Bowling Green State University will join many other universities in becoming a smoke-free campus.

This policy supports BGSU’s commitment to promoting a healthy environment. Within this website, you will find the policy, information on cessation programs and a map of designated smoking areas.

Sincerely,
