Student Assembly / Processional

Graduates are asked to report to the Stroh Center, entering through the Schmidthorst Pavilion entrance located at the southwest corner of the building to assemble for robing and the processional. Graduates should arrive no later than 45 minutes before the ceremony begins. Signs will be posted indicating where to report. Graduates are grouped by college and by degree within the college. Once in the student assembly area, graduates need to be sure to pick-up and complete an "announcer card." The processional begins promptly on time.

For graduates who are planning to be dropped off at the Stroh Center for Commencement, please use the graduate drop-off area located in the Mileti parking lot.  Access to the lot will be via the Mercer Street Entrance.  Once the graduate has been dropped-off, guests will be directed to join the one-way Commencement traffic on Alumni Drive.  For safety concerns, please do not plan graduate and/or guest drop-off along East Wooster Street.

Each graduate receives a limited number of tickets. All available tickets are distributed; therefore, please safeguard your tickets as replacing them may not be possible. Family and friends wishing to view the ceremony in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union may do so in either the Falcon's Nest (first floor) or the Theatre (room 228). The ceremony may also be viewed on Time Warner Community Channel 5 in Bowling Green. Students may attempt to secure additional tickets from classmates who are graduating but have chosen not to attend Commencement. A "ticket exchange" has been set up as a discussion thread in your MyBGSU Canvas Community.

The intent of the ticket exchange board is to facilitate the EXCHANGE of Commencement tickets. The SALE of tickets or a monetary offer to PURCHASE tickets is a violation of University policy. Posts of this nature will be removed. Violators are subject to University disciplinary action.

All campus lots and metered spaces (free on the weekends) will be open, with the exception of Lot 24. This lot is reserved for guests with Commencement parking passes only.  Individuals with state-issued handicapped parking permits may also use Lot 24. Traffic on Alumni Drive and Stadium Drive will be designated for one-way traffic. Please plan accordingly.

  Participating Graduates
All requirements for graduation must be recorded in the Office of Registration and Records by June 6, 2014. It is the student's responsibility to make sure that all grade changes, appeals, transfer credits, and incomplete grades are recorded. If the student has not met graduation requirements, the student will have to reapply for a later graduation ceremony.
  Special Accommodation Seating Arrangements

Graduating students can go on-line to their MyBGSU canvas page and complete the Special Accommodation Seating request. A packet will be prepared in the graduate’s name and will contain a reserved parking pass and two reserved seating passes.  The packet may be picked up by the student at the 2nd floor cashier of the BGSU Bookstore in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union beginning Thursday, April 3 through 12 p.m. on Friday, May 9.  Any remaining packets may be picked up by the student or any family member, at the front desk of the Perry Field House from 12 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9 and between 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. on the morning of Saturday, May 10.  Please Note:  Special Accommodation passes only provide access to this reserved seating.  Door tickets are still required for entry into the Stroh Center.  Due to limited space in the reserved seating area, we ask that only the guest needing the special accommodation and one additional person be seated in this section.  If the graduate's entire family would like to sit together elsewhere, there is other, non-reserved, seating available.  To best accommodate needs, please make requests early.

  Ceremony Instructions

This information is presented in lieu of a Commencement rehearsal.

Commencement will last approximately two hours. The candidates from each college will be presented to the president, and the candidates will proceed row by row to the platform under the direction of the marshals. Candidates will remain seated until their row moves to the aisle to proceed to the stage. The name of each graduate will be announced, and those persons graduating with honors will be recognized. Each candidate will pass in front of the diploma table, receive a diploma cover, and return to their original seat and be seated.

After diploma covers have been issued, candidates will be asked to stand for the conferring of degrees. The ceremony will close with a recessional and will be followed by a reception located in the first and second-level concourses in the Stroh Center.

For undergraduates, the honors calculation is based on a minimum of 110 hours in courses that count toward the grade point average. If a student has less than 110 hours that count toward the grade point average, the grade point average requirement is figured using a sliding scale. As the number of grade point average hours decreases, the grade point average requirements for honors increases. The hours and grade point average requirements for students with less than 110 grade point average hours may be obtained in the Office of Registration and Records. The grades earned from other institutions are used in the calculation of honors. Transfer students must also complete 56 hours at Bowling Green State University. A minimum of 30 of those hours must be used in the calculation of the grade point average. Please refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for additional information.

For purposes of Commencement, honors are determined by all grades received and recorded by the Office of Registration and Records by February 7, 2014; graduating term grades are not included. Questions and inquiries should be made with the Office of Registration and Records.  For graduate students, there is not an honors designation.

  Mailing Diplomas

Diplomas will be mailed to the graduate's home address approximately 8 to 10 weeks following Commencement. Teaching certificate applications will be mailed from the College of Education and Human Development to the state departmental processing. Please note that transcripts and degree information will not be available until three weeks after Commencement, provided the graduate has completed all degree requirements.

All requirements for graduation must be recorded in the Office of Registration and Records by June 6, 2014. Please direct any questions regarding degree requirements, honors, mailing of diplomas to the  Office of Registration and Records at 419-372-8435.
