Career Center - WorkNet
Susan Huffine Gladieux and the staff of the Career Center were recently spotlighted in the National Association of Colleges
and Employers (NACE) newsletter. During the summer, Susan led the staff through the implementation of a new administrative
system, NACElink Career Services Manager. The new system, called WorkNet, allows the Career Center to facilitate job posting/searching, interview and appointment scheduling, on-site recruiting,
and resume referrals for students and employers.
BGSU uses the NACElink Career Services Manager system to service the 37,613 students registered through its CSM site, BGSU
WorkNet. In addition, Gladieux reports that, since BGSU began using NACElink in June 2008, it has had 7,517 first-time login
students, compared to last year’s full academic year (2007-08) of 5,340. In the first four months, BGSU's “new accounts” increased
71 percent! Gladieux believes this is due to the ease with which students can register through the NACElink CSM system.
BGSU uses the following modules/services: ProNet, OCR, events, such as workshops and information sessions, job postings, placements,
resume books, counseling, and resume approval.
The largest challenge in implementing the system at BGSU was getting everyone to accept the change and learn a brand new interface.
To help staff become CSM experts, there were weekly system meetings during which everyone reviewed each module, tab, section,
and field on the student and employer of the system. Staff, graduate assistants, and student employees also tested the system
in order to foresee the difficulties students might encounter. To test the employer side of the system, BGSU limited employer
access based on their attendance at career fairs and/or participation in on-campus recruiting program. This allowed them to
learn from employers what needed to improve, including help tips and the Employer User Guide.
BGSU’s NACElink CSM implementation is a huge success. Thanks to Susan Gladieux, a dedicated member of the NACElink user community,
and to the rest of the BGSU staff for their efforts in launching WorkNet!
