Updates from the Department of Higher Education and Student Affairs

Another year has come and gone, leaving behind many memories we would like to share with you all. Though some of these moments have been bittersweet, there has been much to celebrate in the HESA office.

This year’s HESA banquet brought together our students, faculty, supervisors, and friends for a “vintage” themed night of fun that commemorated all the hard work of this past year. Special thanks to BGSDA, HEADS, and their executive boards for working hard to put together this elegant event.

Congratulations to those who won awards at the 2012-2013 HESA Banquet!

CSP Community Spirit Award: Joelle Fundaro

CSP Graduate Student of the Year: Erin Kelly

Outstanding Contributions by a HIED Student: Ryan Bronkema

HIED Faculty Award for Academic Excellence: Holly Asimou

The Dr. Carolyn Palmer Adult Learner Contribution Scholarship: Ellen Lassiter Collier

James L. Galloway Memorial Award: Joshua Maxwell

DeCrane Supervisor of the Year Award: Deanna Vatan Woodhouse

After 35 years, HESA said goodbye and good luck to Dr. C. Carney Strange. He will retire in June. Throughout his time at BGSU, Carney has touched the lives and “ruined the thinking” of so many students. Enjoy your retirement, Carney!

The office also said goodbye to its second-year students in the College Student Personnel program. Although we are sad to see them go, we know they are moving on to other opportunities, taking all of their knowledge and experience with them to continue making a difference in others’ lives.

We are excited to welcome 35 new CSP and 8 new HIED students this summer and fall. We look forward to working with our colleagues and friends in student affairs for another great year.
