Stroh Center

Meeting a need on campus

Proposed New BGSU Stroh Center

From student orientation to graduation ceremonies, BGSU students will begin and end their college careers at the Stroh Center. The 5,000-seat arena also will host concerts and other campus events and be the new home for Falcon basketball and volleyball.

Construction of the state-of-the-art, multi-use facility will begin this fall and will be completed in 2011.

The Stroh Center will replace Anderson Arena in Memorial Hall, a nearly 50-year-old building that:

  • Does not comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is not easily accessible by people with disabilities.
  • Is inadequate for graduation ceremonies, concerts and other events due to poor layout, seating and acoustics
  • Is expensive to operate and maintain
  • Lacks modern conveniences that students, fans and event goers expect
  • Is not on par with other Mid-American Conference facilites

The student fee for the Stroh Center will not begin until the building opens in 2011. Among current students, only this year’s freshman class will pay the new fee.

Of the total cost for the Stroh Center, $14 million will be paid for with private donations, including a nearly $8 million gift from the Stroh family. The remaining $26 million will be borrowed. That debt will be paid off over time through a student fee of approximately $50 per semester.
